Globally, there are an estimated 10 million social enterprises in operation, creating 200 million jobs. Despite their social and economic impact, the social enterprise sector is lacking $1.1 trillion in financing to grow and scale. This is why the Motsepe Foundation has committed five million rand, over five-years, towards the elevation of 25 South African youth-led start-ups.
With a focus on social entrepreneurship, the Golden Circle supports the acceleration and capacity-building of high-impact entrepreneurs who are building solutions aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
This year, coordinated alongside the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, founders of five startups will receive one on-one mentorship, as well as insights from venture capitalists, creative directors, legal experts, and serial entrepreneurs.
The five selected entrepreneurs for the 2025 Golden Circle were selected from over 600 applications. They represent a group of job creators, innovators, and a new generation of leaders who are creating positive and necessary change.
“Each of you are choosing to be part of the solution to the challenges we face. This gives us hope, and it makes me look to the future with optimism,” said Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Co-Founder and CEO of Motsepe Foundation.
We are very proud to welcome them into the Motsepe Foundation Golden Circle.
