The annual Universities in Dialogue initiative, hosted by Motsepe Foundation, convened virtually today to donate student representative councils (SRCs) R32 million. This donation will be allocated towards alleviating student challenges surrounding registration, fees, and historical debt.

Since 2022, the annual donation has aimed to strengthen student-led interventions. During the meeting, student leaders and Dean of Students from 26 universities shared the challenges they have faced and the solutions they have implemented to ensure impactful allocation of their awarded resources. SRCs were encouraged to take a strategic approach by enhancing their capacity to report, monitor, and innovate to address student challenges.

Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation said, “We have the responsibility to shape the world we want to live in. If we aim to foster values of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity within our institutions, and our society more broadly, it must begin with us.”

In the last 2-years, over 10,000 students have benefited from the donation and the allocations made by SRCs across the country.
